Liz Cunningham is the author of Talking Politics: Choosing the Presidient in the Television Age (Praeger, 1995). The book is a series of oral-history interviews with America's top newscasters, including Tom Brokaw, Larry King, Robert MacNeil, Linda Ellerbee, Bernard Shaw, and others. It received broad praise as an exceptional commentary on the role of television in presidential campaigns.

The San Francisco Chronicle applauded Cunningham's approach to this key area of American politics - "Cunningham asks tough questions and elicits pithy answers." Publishers Weekly described it as a "probing glimpse at a process irrevocably changed by the tube" and Kirkus Reviews cited it as full of "interesting exchanges and provocative observations."
